Oil still first choice for homes in Derry
The Northern Ireland Housing Executive has recently completed a heating upgrade to its housing stock in Strathfoyle. Of the 68 houses in Phase One, 54 of the tenants chose to install oil and 14 natural gas.
David Blevings of the Northern Ireland Oil Federation commented, “ While much hype has surrounded the arrival of natural gas to the North West the facts from Strathfoyle prove that consumers still prefer oil and the choice of supplier that comes with it. This is reflected in the overall market share for oil-fired central heating that now stands at 75% of all homes in Northern Ireland. Many consumers now acknowledge the transparency of the heating oil market with its daily price movements; the fact that the price goes down as well as up allows consumers the opportunity to fill their tank at a time that suits them and once the oil has been purchased it is theirs to use as they wish!”
